expensive taste
I fell asleep in a first-floor flat
whose wide windows faced the city street. Next door
and to the left, a funeral home churned out
mourners before I even opened my eyes.
I woke in the bed alone
and listened to the slow march
of glazed-eyed grief
make its way through philadelphia
and wondered if such a sound
was worth the view.
